Sept. 13, 2014 DENVER - The University of Denver women's soccer team will return home for its fourth-straight of eight in the state of Colorado to take on Iowa State (5-2-0) on Sunday at 11 a.m. at CIBER Field at the University of Denver Soccer Stadium. The match will air live on Altitude Sports Network, as voice of the Colorado Rapids Richard Fleming will call the action alongside analyst and MLS beat writer Chris Bianchi.
HEAD COACH Jeff Hooker
University of Denver head coach Jeff Hooker is into his 23rd campaign at the helm. The nine-time conference coach of the year will look to reach double digits in NCAA Tournament appearances this season, trying to make it three in a row for the program. With over 300 wins already to his name, Hooker has a 307-110-39 DU women's record, and a 327-122-43 all-time record. The veteran head man also spent two seasons with the DU men's program, recording a 20-12-4 mark while being in-charge of both programs.
VARGAS SET FOR DEBUT IN STARTING XI
Junior goalkeeper Tina Vargas (Issaquah, Wash.) is slated to make her debut in the starting XI on Sunday after reining Summit League Goalkeeper of the Year Cassidy Rey (Arcadia, Calif.) received her marching orders in the 89th minute for the denial of a goal scoring opportunity. Vargas is scheduled to earn her third cap on Sunday, all three coming in three consecutive matches.
SCOUTING IOWA STATE
Iowa State arrives in the Mile High City winners of its last four, including Friday's 3-0 result at Northern Colorado. Koree Willer has scored six of the team's 14 goals, including three game-winners. This is the Cyclones second match against a Summit League side this season, as Iowa State defeated conference table-toppers North Dakota State 1-0 on Sept. 7. Goalkeeper Andrea Swanson has recorded two-straight cleansheets, the club's only two shutouts of the season.
