OMAHA, Neb. – The University of Denver women's soccer team (8-4-4, 5-1-1 Summit) earned goals on either side of halftime on its way to a 2-1 win at Omaha in its final road match of the 2025 regular season on Sunday morning.
Senior
Lily O'Grady opened the scoring in the 28
th minute with her first goal of the year to give DU a 1-0 lead at the half. Redshirt sophomore
Kera Nguyen then tucked a corner kick into the back of the net in the 63
rd minute for the first goal of her collegiate career to double the DU lead. Omaha pulled one back in the 68
th minute but a strong defensive stand and a critical fingertip save from redshirt junior
Alina Santos secured the win in the final 20 minutes.
SIGNIFICANT STATS:
- O'Grady and Nguyen became the 12th and 13th unique goal scorers for Denver this season.
- It was O'Grady's second career goal and her first since netting the game winner against NC State on September 3, 2023.
- It was Nguyen's first collegiate goal and also her first game winner.
- Nguyen became the seventh Pioneer to score a winner this year.
- Senior Isabella Chidiac 's assist on O'Grady's goal was her eighth of the season, the most by a Pioneer in a single season since Natalie Beckman and Sami Feller had 18 and 11, respectively, in 2021.
- With the assist, Chidiac also moved into a tie for the most points by a DU player, matching her jersey number with 10.
- Redshirt senior Samantha Dreiling 's assist on Nguyen's goal was her third of the season, second most on the roster.
- S. Dreiling finished the weekend with three points after scoring the equalizer at St. Thomas on Thursday.
- S. Dreiling led the match with four shot attempts, marking her third time in the last four matches with as many.
- Santos' two saves on the day bring her to 75 total on the season, now tied for the 10th most by a single goalkeeper in a season in Denver's NCAA Division I history.
FIRST HALF:
15' | The first shot for either team came from the foot of O'Grady with some pace but was aimed squarely at the keeper for an easy save.
24' | Redshirt sophomore
Luci Vincent put a header toward the net off a cross from S. Dreiling but sent the ball over the crossbar.
26' | Chidiac took the first corner of the day and found freshman
Annie Philbin at the edge of the six-yard box. The freshman connected but hit the post.
28' | Chidiac settled the ball off a deflection at the edge of the 18-yard box and tapped it laterally to O'Grady, who put it into the back of the net with some heat from 25 yards out.
SECOND HALF:
61' | S. Dreiling had a look from well beyond the penalty area but pushed it high.
63' | Nguyen found the ball off an S. Dreiling corner kick and pushed it across the line to double the Denver lead.
68' | UNO's Kendall Dobberstein curled the ball past Santos to pull the Mavericks within one.
72' | Santos made a win-preserving save by a fingertip to push the ball clear of the crossbar.
