Pioneers beat New Hampshire 1-0

Sept. 14, 2014

MSOC v New Hampshire (14 SEP 14) - Highlights Boxscore

DENVER - Kosta Kordistos scored in the 81st minute to give the Pioneers a dramatic 1-0 victory over New Hampshire Sunday afternoon for their 10th consecutive victory at CIBER Field over the past two seasons. The 25th ranked Pioneers won Friday evening against Oakland University, 3-2, a game that Kordistos also notched a goal.

In a game that saw several scoring chances by both teams, Kordistos finally broke the ice thanks to a pretty feed from freshman A.J. Fuller. It was the first career assist for Fuller and couldn't have come at a better time. Receiving a lead pass from Reid Hukari, Fuller raced into the box on the left side, drew the goalkeeper towards him, and then slid the ball on a silver platter to Kordistos who was cutting in front of the net. From six yards out the senior came through, banging home a one-time redirection.

It was also the first shutout of the season for the Pioneers and goalkeeper Oliver Brown who was playing in just his second game after off-season shoulder surgery.

The win capped a most memorable weekend for Pioneers head coach Bobby Muuss. Not only did his team win a pair of one goal games, his wife gave birth to a baby girl late Friday night. Following the victory over Oakland, Muuss and his wife went immediately to the hospital.

Muuss missed training on Saturday but praised his capable coaching staff of Jamie Franks, Ryan Hopkins, Levi Rossi and Cole Chapleski for preparing the team to take on New Hampshire (2-4-0).

"The only way this happens is because I have a great staff who took over for me while I was gone yesterday and helped prepare the team for today," Muuss explained. "The guys responded on a hot Sunday and I couldn't be more proud."

The Pioneers (4-2-0) take to the road on Friday to face Utah Valley University (2-2-0) before returning home for a late Sunday afternoon match against Portland.
