Jan. 2, 2015

Soccer standout Jordan Schweitzer has started 52 of the 56 games he's played in his first three seasons with the Pioneers. Denver head coach Bobby Muuss calls Schweitzer one of the finest student-athletes he has coached. An All-Summit League performer in 2014, Schweitzer will look to lead the Pioneers to their unprecedented third straight Summit League title and NCAA berth in 2015. Number 22, from Everett, Washington sat down and answered "20 Questions."

"20 QUESTIONS WITH Jordan Schweitzer"

1) When did you first feel you had the chance to play college sports?

When I stared to receive letters from college coaches during the recruiting process. Growing up and playing soccer for almost my entire life I just wanted to keep playing at the next level and this is when I realized I could have that opportunity to play at the next level.

2 2) Most memorable high school moment?

I know it's cliché but graduation was a great moment. To graduate and know you have finished high school and are on your way to a new chapter in your life is exciting and to be able to share that with friends and family is always great.

3 3) Why did you choose to attend DU?

For me the first time I talked to the staff at DU I knew that this was a place I could see myself enjoying and improving as an individual and athlete. They were so excited about the program and motivated to keep the program moving forward and to heights that it has never reached and I wanted to be a part of that. When you add strong academics and the amazing city of Denver and all Colorado has to offer I was sold.

4) What is your major and why?

I am a sociology major. I took a few sociology classes and they were honestly the first classes in my first year that caught my attention and I started to become more interested in the subject. If you like what you study then it doesn't feel like class and I'm hoping that translates over to my future career.

5) Who was your favorite childhood sports athlete?

Oh, that's a tough one because I played almost every sport growing up so I liked all kinds of athletes but I guess it would have to be Steven Gerrard of Liverpool F.C. He was one player I always tried to replicate growing up in soccer as I liked the way he controlled the game and he could do it all pass, shoot, score goals, tackle; he was the real deal

6) Favorite sports teams?

Soccer- Liverpool F.C. and Seattle Sounders

Football- Seattle Seahawks

Basketball- The old Seattle Supersonics. I won't cheer for OKC. We were robbed.

Hockey- Edmonton Oilers

7) Favorite vacation spot?

Kauai, Hawaii. I've had some great times with family here and it's on the beach so it's a no brainer for me.

8) One word the people would use to describe you?

Competitive.

9) Which current DU athlete do you admire most?

That's a tough one also because for me the one DU athlete I admire most is an alumni. I was lucky enough to play with Blair Jeralds for two seasons and he was the man. He was a great student- athlete who worked hard every single day and did all the right things on and off the field. He was the guy that everyone looked up to and even though he was a man of few words in the locker room when he spoke everyone shut up and listened. He taught me a lot through his actions every day and the way he lived his life.

1 10) What is your favorite sports cliché?

You miss 100 percent of the shots you don't take - Wayne Gretzky

11)What pet peeve do you have that drives you crazy?

Professors who teach past the class time. Drives me crazy.

12) Favorite restaurant in Colorado?

Illegal Pete's. Great Burritos for a price I can afford on a college budget!

13)If you could sit down and have dinner with any three people, dead or alive, whom would you choose?

Oh, that's also tough. My Grandfather from my Dad's side would be the first. I was unlucky to have been born after he passed but have heard great things and would love to meet the man. Abraham Lincoln would be my second; he seems like he had it all figured out and then Charlize Theron cause why wouldn't you.

1 14) Most impactful book you've read?

The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger

15) Most difficult class you've taken at DU?

Econ 1020. Sometimes you just don't get the material. I struggled through it but glad I'm done and I will never take another Econ class. Ever.

1 16) What academic goals do you have?

To finish with a degree. That's the only goal I really have now but I try to take something away from each class I take.

1 17) What athletic goals do you have?

Do you want me to write them all down?! The main goal is to leave the program after helping it to new heights and to have left behind a culture and tradition that future players can look to and can help build the program further than I did.

1 18) If a movie was made about your life, what would the title be?

Curveball question here! Wow I have no clue….. can I be lame and generic? Something like: The Jordan Schweitzer Story. That's good enough for me though I would be open for suggestions.

1 19) Who would play you in the movie?

Leo DiCaprio. How has that dude not won an Oscar yet?

2 20) Complete the following sentence; In ten years I hope to be___________

Playing professional soccer and starting a family.
