Dec. 9, 2015 NSCAA Release
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - University of Denver junior right back Reagan Dunk (Dallas, Texas) and senior defensive midfielder Jordan Schweitzer (Everett, Wash.) have been named to the NCAA All-West Region First Team, while junior defensive midfielder Sam Hamilton (Evergreen, Colo.) was named to the All-West Region Second Team, the NSCAA announced on Wednesday.
All three players played a major role in Denver's 0.40 goals against average and its 0.63 shutout percentage, both of which ranked second in the country in 2015. The trio and the rest of the DU defense allowed just 2.5 shots on goal per game en route to keeping a Pioneer record 12 shutouts.
Dunk started all 19 matches for Denver in 2015, playing 1774 of DU's 1795 minutes in the campaign. The 2015 Summit League Defensive Player of the Year is 30th in the country in assists with eight from his outside back position, and was the most experienced player on a Denver backline that allowed just eight goals this season. Of his eight assists, five were on game-winners. Earlier this month, Dunk was named a MAC Hermann Semifinalist.
Denver's co-captains, Hamilton and Schweitzer, provided a dynamic duo in-front of first year head coach Jamie Franks' back four in 2015. Schweitzer had one assist on the campaign, while Hamilton tallied two goals in the New Mexico Invitational to earn himself College Soccer News National Team of the Week honors in September. The two captains combined for 132 CAPS in a Denver kit, including Schweitzer's 70 starts in his 73 CAPS. Schweitzer was the only four-year senior on Denver's squad this year, while Hamilton will return for his senior season in 2016.
The Pioneers finished the campaign with a 15-1-3 record, dropping its NCAA Second Round clash with SMU on November 22 by a count of 1-0 in extra time. Denver loses just two seniors from its roster heading into the 2016 season in redshirt-senior goalkeeper Dan Jackson (Chapel Hill, N.C.) and Schweitzer. DU finished the regular season unbeaten for the first time in its Division I history.
