WLAX v Louisville (28 FEB 15) - Full Game
Denver- The 19th ranked Denver Pioneers women's lacrosse team took on the 13th ranked Louisville Cardinals Saturday afternoon for their 2015 home opener at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium. The battle of ranked teams ended with the Cardinals on top by a score of 14-9.
Today's loss snapped a 12 game home win streak for the Pioneers, dating back to last season. "I'm obviously disappointed by our performance today. Louisville is a very good team and we gave them too many easy looks," said head Coach Liza Kelly.
Denver's offensive attack was countered by a physical Louisville defense forcing the Pioneers to take difficult shots. The offense was carried by senior attacker Jill Remenapp. On the day she had six points, four goals and two assists. Many of her goals came from fighting through traffic and beating double teams. The performance of the senior drew praise from head coach Liza Kelly. "Our seniors really stepped up today. Jill really stood out with her six points while getting face guarded and double teamed the whole game." Remenapp is now at eight goals in the young season and nine assists.
Although battling a deficit, the Pioneers battled throughout the game. Ali Proehl and Rachael Dillon both stuck out on the defensive end forcing six turnovers. "Those two really stuck out causing a lot of turnovers," said Kelly.
"We have a long way to go as a team, but I am confident that we will make the changes to get us to where we want to be," said Kelly.
Next up for the Pioneers is Boston University on March 11th. That game will start at 7 pm and be broadcast on Altitude.
