Round Two Player Results

ST. GEORGE, UTAH - With two rounds of the three round NCAA St. George Regional completed the University of Denver women's golf team will look to rally Saturday to earn a trip to the NCAA Tournament. The Summit League Champions are in 14th place after the first two days of competition at 55-over par. The top six teams in the 18 team field will advance. Currently, Virginia, at 36-over par rests precariously in sixth place. Southern California, the top team in the country, is in first place at 16-over par, with rival Stanford 12-strokes off the lead.

Denver has been led by Isabel Southard (Sharon, Mass.) who is tied for 11th place after shooting a 3-over 74 for the day to place her at 6-over par for the tournament. Unfortunately for the junior she had a triple bogey on the final hole. Southard will try to track down Annie Park of USC who sits atop the leaderboard at 1-over par with par, one shot better than two others.

"Really outstanding performance by our top three players today," stated Denver head coach Lindsay Kuhle. "Mariell had a spring season low round today and Izzy played solid all day. Tough finish for her but I know she will come back ready for tomorrow. And Jess Carty improved two strokes for a 77."

Mariell Bruun (Larvik, Norway) has been steady for the Pioneers and is in a 29th place tie at 11-over par Bruun started her day off with a birdie and finished 3-over on the afternoon. Jessica Carty (Holywood, Northern Ireland) was on her way to a strong round until running into difficulty on the 16th and 17th holes and had to settle for a 6-over par day placing her at 14-over for the tournament, good for a tie for 53rd place. The fickle nature of golf has bitten Elyse Smidinger (Crofton, Md.). The Summit League individual champ has battled her way to a pair of 12-over 83's and is +24 for the tournament putting her in a tie for 87th place in the field of 96.

"We really look for all players to finish the tournament on a great note tomorrow and play Pioneer golf, which is to compete at your highest level while trusting everything you've worked on and done this year," Kuhle said. Ă‚ "We need to play with more confidence and excitement and not be afraid on this course. For us to finish tomorrow with a solid round we need a strong performance from all five players."

The third and final round will take place Saturday at the Entrada at Snow Canyon course. Weather is expected to be overcast with temperatures in the upper 60's with a 20-percent chance of showers.
