EL PASO, Texas - Denver volleyball earned its seventh win of the season and second five-set win over UTEP Thursday. The Pioneers traded sets with the Miners, ultimately winning the match 25-20, 22-25, 25-18, 25-17, 15-9.
DU excelled offensively, hitting .261 in the match with 74 total kills. Kayla Principato (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) led the Pioneers with a career-high 18 kills. Moni Corrujedo (El Paso, Texas), Sarah Schmid (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) and Ruth Okoye (Aurora, Colo.) all earned at least 10 kills in the match.
Both setters earned career highs in the match. Monique Domme (Colorado Springs, Colo.) tallied 34 assists, while Piyusha Boteju (Euless, Texas) recorded 29 assists. Domme also earned three service aces in the match.
Denver held UTEP to a .163 hitting percentage in the match, including two sets in which the Miners hit below .100. Defensive specialist Cassidy Rooke (Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.) led the Pioneers with 31 digs in the match.
The Pioneers continue play at the Borderland Invitational in Las Cruces, N.M., with matches against Oklahoma, New Mexico State and Brown Friday and Saturday.
