DENVER - The University of Denver women's lacrosse team welcomes eight student-athletes to the 2016 roster, head coach Liza Kelly announced.
Maddie Baum (Piedmont, Calif.) broke the points, goals, assists and ground balls records as a four-year member of Piedmont High School's varsity lacrosse team. A three-time first team All-League member, Baum led her team in points her final three years of school and helped her team to 19-2 and 17-2 finishes as league champions as a junior and senior. Baum captained her team and was named team MVP her junior and senior seasons.
As a two-sport athlete playing lacrosse and field hockey, Elizabeth Behrins (Basking Ridge, N.J.) won the Ridge High School William Keeler Athletic and Citizenship Award. Behrins was a three-time Skyland Conference first team selection and was named to the Courier News All-Area girls' lacrosse first team in 2014 and 2015. She also earned All-America honorable mention as a senior.
Julia Feiss (Baltimore, Md.) has been playing attack and midfield since 2008. Feiss scored 86 goals for Bryn Mawr in 2014, helping her team to 9-2, 6-5 and 6-5 finishes in the challenging IAAM A Conference. She also excelled at squash and field hockey.
Kate Knott (Lutherville, Md.) played four years of varsity lacrosse and field hockey at Notre Dame Prep. Knott captained the field hockey team and was named a 2015 IAAM All-Star for field hockey. She will be joining sister Ellie as a member of Denver's lacrosse team.
As the 2015 Denver Post All-Colorado girls' lacrosse Player of the Year, Kendra Lanuza (Littleton, Colo.) led the state in scoring and points as a junior and senior for Chatfield Senior High School, racking up 101 goals in 2014 and 104 in 2015. Lanuza was a two-time first team All-State selection, four-time All-Conference selection and a first-team All-American in 2014. She also succeeded in the classroom as an Academic All-American in 2014 and 2015. Lanuza also competed in field hockey and boarder cross, earning All-Conference three times and All-Colorado once in field hockey and three bronze medals in snowboarding.
Caroline Lewis (Baltimore, Md.) helped the McDonogh School to their seventh consecutive IAAM A Conference championship as a senior. As a member of the JV lacrosse team, Lewis earned the Coaches' Award in 2013. Lewis also participated in indoor track, soccer and basketball in high school, earning IAAM A Conference championships in 2013, 2014 and 2015 as a sprinter in indoor track.
Audrey Schreck (Charlottesville, Va.) competed in varsity lacrosse, tennis, basketball and cross country at St. Anne's-Belfield, earning first team All-American status in 2014 and 2015. Schreck was named team MVP in 2014 and 2015 and was a three-time All-State selection. Schreck also broke state and school records in cross country.
Nicki Wilkinson (Groton, Mass.) led Groton-Dunstable Regional High School to the state final for the first time in school history for any girls' sport. As a two-year captain, Wilkinson was named the MVP of Massachusetts Central/West Tournament in 2015 and Mid-Wach League MVP in 2014. Wilkinson was a three-time Lowell Sun All-Star, Worcester Telegram & Gazette Super Team member and Mid-Wach League first team All-Star. She also played varsity field hockey, soccer and basketball.
The Denver Pioneers finished 13-5 in 2015 behind the senior leadership of attacker Jill Remenapp and goalkeeper Hannah Hook. The team will aim to bring together the veterans and newcomers to find similar success in 2016.
