Jan. 21, 2016 DENVER - This University of Denver men's tennis team will begin their 2016 season with the ITA Kickoff in Columbus, Ohio for the two-day event this weekend.
The 51st-ranked Pioneers are set to take on the University of South Carolina on Saturday at 2:00pm (MT), followed by matches against Ohio State University and Wichita State University beginning on Sunday at 10:00am (MT).
Junior Diogo Rocha (Lisbon, Portugal) came in at No. 45 (out of 125) in the singles rankings after being ranked at No. 75 in the preseason rankings. Rocha defeated Dan Little of UU 6-0, 5-7, 6-4 in the finals match for main draw singles at the 2015 ITA Regional Championship tournament on Oct. 25 during the Pioneers' fall season.
Henry Craig (Murrieta, Calif.) and Alex Gasson (Alton, United Kingdom) were ranked No. 11 (out of 60) in the doubles rankings after coming in at No. 16 in the preseason rankings. Craig and Gasson beat Hayden Sabatka/Bart Van Leijsen of UNM 3-6, 7-6, 10-6 in the finals match for main draw doubles at the 2015 ITA Regional Championship back in October.
