Oct. 17, 2016 University of Denver student-athlete Diogo Rocha (Lisbon, Portugal) competed at the 2016 Oracle ITA Masters in Malibu, California this past week, amassing a record of 2-1 in singles play as well as a 1-1 mark in mixed doubles playing with junior Pioneer Julia O'Loughlin (Highland Beach, Fla.).
In opening round action, Rocha defeated Andrew Watson (Memphis) in straight sets (6-0, 6-3) prior to vanquishing Nick Crystal (USC) 6-2, 6-2 to earn a berth in the quarterfinals where he faced Shawn Hadavi (Columbia), falling 6-1, 7-6 (2). Team Rocha/O'Loughlin, meanwhile, defeated Team Ip/Moundir (Rice/Old Dominion) 6-2 in Round 1 of the Mixed Doubles Draw prior to falling to Team Daavettila/Brymer (UNC/UCLA) by the same score in Round 2.
