AUSTIN, Texas - The University of Denver men's and women's swimming programs continued to impress, setting four school records on Thursday night in a 10-final session on night two of the four-day Texas Invitational on Thursday at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center.
Denver's women's 200 free relay opened up the night with a seventh place finish, as senior Johanna Roas (Munich, Germany) and juniors Morgan Wice-Roslin (Colorado Springs, Colo.), Heidi Bradley (Victoria, B.C.) and Morgan McCormick (Golden, Colo.) combined for a time of 1:31.20.
The Pioneers' men finished fourth in the same event, tying a school record with a time of 1:18.42. Junior Anton Loncar (Hillsboro, Ore.), redshirt-senior Kyle Robrock (Savage, Minn.), freshman Sid Farber (Portland, Ore.) and junior Ray Bornman (Mackay, Queensland) swam the NCAA B Standard for the Pioneers on Thursday.
Junior Maddie Myers (Arvada, Colo.) represented Denver in the A-Final of the women's 500 free, finishing seventh with a NCAA B Standard 4:44.97. Freshman Colin Gilbert (Kamloops, B.C.) won the B-Final on the men's side, touching at an NCAA B Standard time of 4:17.85, 2.5 seconds better than his qualifying time. Senior Scott Bergstrom (White Slalom, Wash.) won the C-Final, clocking in at an NCAA B Standard of 4:23.72.
Myers set a school record in the 500 free prelims with a time of 4:43.43.
Sophomore Bailey Andison (Smiths Falls, Ontario) finished third in the A-Final of the women's 200 IM to lead the Pioneers in the event with a school-record and NCAA B Standard time of 1:55.82, a little more than eight-tenths behind the second-place finisher from USC. McCormick finished 10th overall, and second in the B-Final, touching at an NCAA B Standard 1:59.90.
In an 80-swimmer field, Roas finished 14th in the women's 50 free at 22.87, an NCAA B Standard. Wice-Roslin clocked in at 22.98, another NCAA B Standard in the event for the Pioneers. Robrock finished seventh on the men's side to lead the Pioneers with an NCAA B Standard 19.66, an A-Final that was separated by just 0.59 seconds from top to bottom. Farber matched Roas' 14th-place finish, clocking in at an even 20 seconds for another NCAA B Standard. Loncar touched in an NCAA B Standard 20.02 to win the C Final in the event.
The second night of the Texas Invitational finished with the 400 medley relay. DU's women's combo of McCormick, senior Amanda Sanders (Superior, Colo.), Bradley and Roas finished seventh at 3:37 flat, while the Pioneers' men quartet of Loncar, senior Tim Cottam (Sydney, Australia), Robrock and Bornman touched fifth at 3:09.51. Loncar won the leadoff leg of the NCAA B Standard time with a school record 100 back time of 45.90.
