LAST TIME OUT
The Pioneers closed out the 2015 season with a loss in the MPSF semifinal to USC, 17-9.
ABOUT DENVER
Denver kicks off the 2016 season as it hosts MPSF in-state foe Colorado Friday at 3 p.m. MT. DU finished the 2015 season with a 13-5 record, including a 7-2 mark in the MPSF.
ABOUT COLORADO
2016 marks the third season for the Buffs. Colorado returns 28 players, including the entire offense from 2015. CU completed the 2015 season with an 11-7 record, going 5-4 the MPSF.
LAST MEETING
This is the third all-time meeting between the two Colorado schools, with Denver winning both previous matchups. The Pioneers also opened the 2014 season with the Buffs.
OPENING UP
DU lost its 2015 season opener at Syracuse. Denver opened up the 2015 home schedule March 11, beating Boston University 13-8. The Pioneers defeated Colorado 7-0 in their 2014 season and home opener.
O' CAPTAIN MY CAPTAIN
The Pioneers have tabbed three seniors as their captains this season. Emily Conway, Sarah Kasun and Christa Reese will serve as captains.
WELCOME ABOARD
Denver adds eight freshmen to the 2016 roster: Elizabeth Behrins, Maddie Baum, Julia Feiss, Kate Knott, Kendra Lanuza, Caroline Lewis, Audrey Schreck and Nicki Wilkinson. DU also welcomes new additions in Bailey Dunning, Katy Miele and Kendall Mulvaney.
MCKINNON CAN
Attacker Rachael McKinnon will hold down the Denver offense. The senior has played in 58 games in her career, racking up 99 goals in that time. McKinnon tallied a career-high 51 goals in her sophomore season for the Pioneers.
STEVENSON SAVES
Maddy Stevenson will be in goal for the Pioneers in 2016. The junior started the final two games of the 2015, earning her first career win in the MPSF quarterfinals. Stevenson has played in 12 games for DU, recording 31 saves in her career.
DEFENDING DENVER
All-MPSF first team member Layne Voorhees will be guiding the Pioneer defense. Voorhees has played in 39 games, causing 38 turnovers and picking up 48 groundballs in her career. Denver's defense also returns Conway, Hunter Gray, Kennedy Milburn, Brooklyn Batey and Sybil Pallace.
A LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN
Since joining the MPSF in 2003, Denver has gone 65-11 in conference play and 55-6 in nine seasons under head coach Liza Kelly.
