LAST TIME OUT
Denver's offense dominated Fresno State. Rachael McKinnon notched four goals for the second-straight game. Kendra Lanuza led the Pioneers with five points, including three assists.
ABOUT DENVER
The Pioneers split their opening matches, falling to Colorado 11-10 before defeating Fresno State 15-3. Denver travels to Louisville to face the [14/17] Cardinals Saturday, Feb. 20 at 11 a.m. MT.
ABOUT LOUISVILLE
Louisville is 2-0 on the season, defeating Marquette 14-6 and Temple 8-5. Kaylin Morissette leads the Cardinals with seven points and 19 draw controls. Goalie Brittany Read has made 16 saves for a 5.50 GAA.
LAST MEETING
This is the third all-time meeting between Denver and Louisville. The Cardinals have won the two previous games, most recently defeating Denver 14-9 last season.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Lanuza was named the MPSF Rookie of the Week for the first week of play in 2016. Lanuza is tied for first in points with eight and leads the Pioneers five assists on the season.
OPENING UP
DU lost its second-straight home opener with its first lost to Colorado in school history.
O' CAPTAIN MY CAPTAIN
The Pioneers have tabbed three seniors as their captains this season. Emily Conway, Sarah Kasun and Christa Reese will serve as captains.
WELCOME ABOARD
Denver adds eight freshmen to the 2016 roster: Elizabeth Behrins, Maddie Baum, Julia Feiss, Kate Knott, Lanuza, Caroline Lewis, Audrey Schreck and Nicki Wilkinson. DU also welcomes new additions in Bailey Dunning, Katy Miele and Kendall Mulvaney.
MCKINNON CAN
Senior attacker McKinnon will hold down the Denver offense. The senior has played in 60 games in her career, racking up 107 goals in that time. McKinnon tallied a career-high 51 goals in her sophomore season for the Pioneers. McKinnon notched four goals in Denver's 2016 season opener, breaking 100 career goals in the process.
SAVING STEVENSON
Maddy Stevenson will be in goal for the Pioneers in 2016. The junior started the final two games of the 2015, earning her first career win in the MPSF quarterfinals. Stevenson has played in 14 games for DU, recording 40 saves in her career.
DEFENDING DENVER
All-MPSF first team member Layne Voorhees will be guiding the Pioneer defense. Voorhees has played in 41 games, causing 40 turnovers and picking up 52 groundballs in her career. Denver's defense also returns Conway, Hunter Gray, Kennedy Milburn, Brooklyn Batey and Sybil Pallace.
A LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN
Since joining the MPSF in 2003, Denver has gone 66-12 in conference play and 56-7 in nine seasons under head coach Liza Kelly.
