May 6, 2016 ELMHURST, Ill. - The Summit League has selected Denver tennis player Diogo Rocha (Lisbon, Portugal) as the Male Athlete of the Month and North Dakota State softball player Logan Moreland (Woodland, Calif.) as the Female Athlete of the Month for April.
Rocha captured his second career Athlete of the Month award after leading Denver to its third consecutive Summit League Championship title. The junior teamed with Zach Fryer at No. 3 doubles and earned 6-3 wins over Omaha and Oral Roberts in the league championship. He also notched a win over ORU's Jan Pehnec at No. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-2, in the championship match. His contest against UNO went unfinished in the semifinals. Prior to the championship, he helped Denver to a 5-2 win over No. 62 New Mexico and went 4-0 in singles and 3-0 in doubles league matches during the month. Rocha was named The Summit League's Player of the Year and earned a spot on the All-League team.
The DU Men's tennis team will now prepare for the first round of the NCAA tournament, which is scheduled to begin next weekend. Denver will face Ole Miss in their first round match on Saturday, May 14. The match will be played at the University of California, Berkeley and is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m. MT.
