Denver opened the second day of competition in the three-team meet with a second place finish in the 200 free relay as senior Johanna Roas (Munich, Germany), junior Morgan Wice-Roslin (Colorado Springs, Colo.), junior Morgan McCormick (Golden, Colo.) and junior Heidi Bradley (Victoria, B.C.) combined for a time of 1:34.90.
The Denver men also finished as the runner-up in their relay by just over three-tenths of a second when redshirt-senior Kyle Robrock (Savage, Minn.), junior Anton Loncar (Hillsboro, Ore.), freshman Sid Farber (Portland, Ore.) and senior Tim Cottam (Sydney, Australia) combined for a sprint relay time of 1:20.76. For the second day in a row the men's opening relay time was good enough for an El Pomar Natatorium record, but Minnesota's A relay broke a nearly 11-year old record Saturday with a time of 1:20.42 to just edge out the Denver relay.
Sophomore Bailey Andison (Smiths Falls, Ontario) and junior Maddie Myers (Arvada, Colo.) turned in a 1-2 finish in the 400 IM to complete a sweep in the discipline this week for Andison. The Denver sophomore finished in 4:25.17, while Myers finished in 4:29.84, nearly five seconds ahead of the next closest swimmer. Sophomore Kyle Ewoldt (Gilbert, Ariz.) led the Pioneers in the men's race with a fourth place finish (4:04.35).
Roas made it back-to-back women's wins for the Pioneers when she touched first in the 100 free with a time of 50.90. Wice-Roslin finished third at 52.56 to give Denver two scorers in the top-3 in the event. After swimming the leadoff leg in the free relay a few events earlier, Robrock led Denver in the men's race with a second-place time of 44.89.
McCormick made it three in a row for the Denver women with her sixth victory this season in the 200 back, clocking in at 1:58.99. Loncar made it a sweep for the Pioneers' backstroke corps touching in 1:47.53, a little more than a second ahead of his teammate Jared Smith (Boulder City, Nev.), who finished second in the event at 1:48.76.
Redshirt senior Andrew Torres (Arvada, Colo.) and Bradley led Denver in the 100 fly with second place finishes in the event at 48.78 and 56.33 in their respective events. On the men's side, senior Patrick Guillory (Meadows Place, Texas) and junior Ben Ussery (Austin, Texas) finished fourth and fifth to score points for the Pioneers.
Freshman Colin Gilbert (Kamloops, B.C.) picked up his second distance victory of the weekend and his first this season in the 500 free with a time of 4:32.11. Junior Grace Sommerville (Ashburton, New Zealand) led the Denver women in the event with a third place finish at 5:08.33.
With four events to go, Sanders led the Pioneers in the 200 breast with a second-place time of 2:15.84, while Cottam led Denver's men's squad with a third place finish in 2:02.86.
The two-day meet finished up with the men's and women's 400 free relays. Roas, Wice-Roslin, Bradley and Myers finished second with a time of 3:26.89. Denver's men's 400 A-relay of Farber, Robrock, junior Ray Bornman (Mackay, Queensland) and Loncar also finished second, touching in 3:02.07.
Freshman Alex Morgan (Dyer, Ind.) finished sixth in both diving events this weekend, while classmate Sammy Walker (Los Gatos, Calif.) finished in eighth and seventh in the three-meter and one-meter, respectively.
