BOX SCORE

BOULDER
-- The University of Denver men's basketball team fought hard but came up short late in the second half as Colorado came away victorious on Tuesday, 89-62. The Pioneers' record slipped to 0-2 on the year while the Buffaloes improved to 2-0.

Daniel Amigo turned in his best offensive output of the season, pouring in a season-high 22 points on 10-of-20 shooting. The 6-foot-10 center knocked down two 3s in the contest.

Joe Rosga was the other DU player to finish in double figures, chipping in with 15 points, which tied a season high.

The final score did not indicate how close the game was for the majority of the evening with it being an eight-point affair for over half the contest.

Rebounding played the deciding factor, with Colorado outrebounding DU 46-23.

The Buffaloes had four players score in double figures in the win.

Denver opened solid, getting two quick baskets from Amigo and Rosga in the opening possessions. The Pioneers' defense held their ground in the early minutes, limiting CU to only a few shots to start going into the first media timeout.

The Crimson and Gold picked up their only lead of the evening after a great feed from Elvin Rodriguez to Jake Pemberton for a corner 3 midway through the first 20 minutes of action. The basket was the first of the night for Pemberton.

Colorado got some separation near the five-minute mark, using a 16-11 spark to take an eight-point lead in the final media timeout of the period. The mini run was highlighted by three straight 3s from the Buffs' trio of Dom Collier, Namon Wright and Lucas Siewert.

The Buffaloes kept at it, building their lead to 10 at the break, 43-33.

Amigo had it going in the first half, putting up a 10 points on 5-for-9 shooting.

Denver found its shooting stroke in the half, shooting 55.6 percent from the field.

Deleon Brown led CU with nine points off the bench.

In the second half, Amigo took over the first four minutes, scoring eight of the first 10 Pioneer points to bring the Buffaloes' lead to under double figures by the first media timeout. The El Paso, Texas native did it with a variety of ways, connecting on two deep 3s and cutting for an easy layup at the rim.

A 6-0 run from CU built their lead back to 12 after an athletic layup from Brown at the 14:26 mark, forcing DU to take a timeout and regroup.

Colorado kept its foot on the gas, going up by as many as 27 on its way to the victory.

DU heads back home for a meeting with Johnson and Wales on Thursday. Tip-off is set for 5 p.m. in Hamilton Gymnasium.
