Tupac Spent Summer with the Australian Women's National Team

Aug. 1, 2017

DENVER-- Over the summer, University of Denver's volleyball assistant coach Jesse Tupac was not far removed from the court, coaching volleyball at the international level. Tupac temporarily traded in the Crimson and Gold of DU for green and yellow as an assistant coach for the Australian Women's National Team at the World Grand Prix (WGP).

With 32 countries competing, the highlight of the tournament for the Australian team came July 9 when they beat Trinidad and Tobago in straight sets (25-20, 25-12, 25-23) in Aguascalientes, Mexico. It was the first WGP win in Australia's history and their first FIVB win since the 2000 Olympics in Sydney.

"Needless to say it was a historic occasion for that team and a lot of fun to be a part of," said the second-year assistant coach.

Now back at DU, Tupac's focus turns back to the Pioneers as the season is quickly approaching. The team will hold the Crimson vs. Gold scrimmage Aug. 19, before the season officially begins Aug. 25 at the College of Charleston Tournament in Charleston, S.C.
