DENVER – The University of Denver women's volleyball team swept Purdue Fort Wayne to improve to 17-1 (6-0) for the season. The Pioneers defeated the Mastodons by scores of 25-19, 25-19, and 25-19 on Friday in Hamilton Gymnasium.
The win was DU's 15th straight and kept their record a perfect 11-0 at home in Hamilton Gym.
Sweeping Away the Competition:
Friday's win over Purdue Fort Wayne gave Denver's ninth sweep this season with seven coming at home.
Big Blocks:
The Pioneers tied their season-high with 13 blocks against the Mastodons.
Emma Willis led the team with seven blocks, followed by
Tina Boe (six),
Taylor Joachim (four),
Lydia Bartalo (four),
Becca Latham (three) and
Katarina Marinkovic (two).
Pioneer Performers:
Category leaders for DU were Marinkovic (eight kills), Boe (eight kills),
Ellie Anderson (21 assists), and
Macy Carrabine (10 digs).
DU Newcomers Making an Impact:
Joachim and Marinkovic are making their mark on DU volleyball, seeing a ton of time in the debut seasons.
Marinkovic posted eight kills, a .333 hitting percentage, six digs, and two blocks against the Mastodons, while Joachim tallied four kills, one digs, and four blocks.
Let's Talk Numbers:
Denver totaled 41 kills, three aces, 49 digs, 13 blocks, and a .219 hitting percentage against Purdue Fort Wayne. The Pioneers held the Mastodons to a .087 hitting percentage, their second lowest this season.
What's Next for DU:
DU remains home as they host Western Illinois at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 14.
