DENVER – The University of Denver women's volleyball team defeated Western Illinois on Sunday 3-0 for its 10th sweep this season. The Pioneers took down the Leathernecks by scores of 25-12, 25-13, and 25-22 to remain perfect in Summit League competitions (7-0).
DU extends its win streak to 16, having not dropped a match since August 25 against Utah.
Boe Puts Up Big Numbers:
Sophomore
Tina Boe led the team in three categories against WIU, tallying eight kills, six aces and four total blocks. The middle blocker has tallied 72 blocks this season, closely following teammate
Emma Willis, who leads the team with 73 blocks.
Success From Behind the Line:
DU totaled 11 aces against Western Illinois, bringing its season total to 147. The Crimson and Gold only need eight more aces this year to break into the top-10 all time for Denver aces in a single season (155).
Pioneer Performers:
Katarina Marinkovic,
Becca Latham, and Willis each recorded seven kills apiece.
Ellie Anderson (19 assists), and
Macy Carrabine (nine digs).
Let's Talk Numbers:
Denver totaled 39 kills, 36 assists, 11 aces, 29 digs, eight blocks and a .301 hitting percentage to win the match. The Pioneers held the Leathernecks to only 24 kills, 21 assists, six blocks and a .090 hitting percentage, handing them their 19th loss of the season.
What's Next for DU:
The Pioneers will hit the road for their first Tuesday night match, facing Omaha at 6 p.m. MT on Oct. 16.
