Catching Up With Katy Miele: Alumnae Q&A

Name: Katy Miele
Years competed: 3
Year graduated: 2018

What did you accomplish at Denver and as a Pioneer?
My time at Denver was nothing short of incredible. It gave me a great degree but it also gave me friends and a community that I'll cherish forever. In my eyes, the relationships I built at DU are some of the most invaluable accomplishments I made during my time there (thank you DUWLAX!).

What have you been up to since graduation?
I've been working at Goldman Sachs since I graduated. It was a quick transition into the real world but I think lacrosse in particular helped me prepare for my job in many ways.

How do you feel DU helped you grow as a person?
DU gave me endless opportunities in both the athletic and academic communities. My time there helped me learn where I want to devote my time, who I want to surround myself with and how to work hard.

Are you still involved in lacrosse?
I'm not currently involved. I love watching games and I miss playing, so I'd love to get more involved once work becomes a little less demanding. I also plan to be attend as many of the team's games (and tailgates) as I can this spring.

What about the University of Denver stood out to you when being recruited?
My story is a little different since I transferred in sophomore year, but I think the people and the place were the biggest draws for me. The team was so welcoming from day one and made me feel right at home. It truly is one big family and an immediate group of best friends. To this day, we all still have each other's backs and I think that in itself speaks volumes about our program.

What do you miss most about being a student-athlete?
I miss the people, the environment, and the day-to-day life. I would do anything to be on Peter Barton for a couple hours a day with 30 of my best friends.

What are some of your favorite memories at Denver and with the Pioneers?
This is a really tough question because so many memories accumulated over the years. Overall, I think every game, especially making it to the NCAA Tournaments, was such a fun experience. There's also so much to do in Denver and our team was always planning activities outside of lacrosse.

What advice would you give to the currently DU women's lax athletes?
I would say cherish every second of college, especially lacrosse, and build as many relationships as possible. It's so easy to forget how lucky we are in the moment but it goes by incredibly fast. I would do anything to go back!
