DENVER – The University of Denver women's volleyball team swept Omaha on Sunday afternoon for its 13th sweep of the 2018 season, taking down the Mavericks by scores of 25-12, 27-25 and 25-15.
Denver expanded its win streak to 20 matches, improving its mark to a historic 22-1 (11-0 Summit League) on the year.
Junior
Andrea Eddy totaled five of Denver's 10 aces against Omaha, upping her season total to 32. Entering the weekend, Eddy was ranked No. 108 in the NCAA for total aces, and 114th with 0.35 aces per set.
Pioneer Performers:
Katarina Marinkovic and
Lydia Bartalo stepped up to help the Pioneers to their 22nd victory this season, tallying eight kills apiece. Bartalo accumulated a .467 hitting percentage in her 15 attack attempts, and Marinkovic closely followed with a .429 hitting percentage.
Denver setters
Ellie Anderson and Eddy split DU's 34 total aces, Anderson totaling 16 and Eddy notching 15.
Sophomore
Tina Boe led the team with five blocks, continuing to top the DU leaderboard with 91 blocks on the year.
Run With It:
The Crimson and Gold took off running in the first set of the match, going on an eight-point scoring streak. Denver went on to take a set one victory with a score of 25-12.
DU saw another run in the third set, taking six-consecutive points to ultimately win the match 3-0.
Let's Talk Numbers:
Denver totaled 37 kills, 10 aces, 33 digs, 9.5 blocks and a .298 hitting percentage against Omaha. They held the Mavericks to only 28 kills, three aces, five blocks and a .098 hitting percentage, their second-worst percentage this season.
What's Next for DU:
Denver will finish up its 2018 home schedule this week, hosting South Dakota at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 30 for a Halloween theme match, then welcoming Oral Roberts at 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 2 for senior night.
