Alumni Q&A: Adrian Veideman

After four years at the University of Denver (2003-07), Adrian Veideman played nine seasons in the American Hockey League (AHL), ECHL and Europe before using his degree to find success in the real estate industry. Below is a Q&A with the former captain.

Where are you originally from?

Sicamous, British Columbia

Why did you choose to attend the University of Denver?

I chose the University of Denver because of its high academic standards and of course the opportunity to play college hockey for the top program in the country. I could not have made a better decision!

What is your favorite memory from your time with the Pioneers?

My favorite memories from my time with the Pioneers were our 2004 & 2005 National Championships.

Where are you living and what are you doing now?

I live in Littleton with my wife, Heather, and our daughter, Adilynn.  We are expecting our second child in the Spring of 2019.  I have a residential real estate business and assist people buying and selling homes in the greater Denver area.  I also coach hockey at Valor Christian high school with George Gwozdecky and help coordinate alumni events for the DU Hockey program.

How did your time at the University of Denver prepare you for life after hockey?

The University of Denver gave me an opportunity to play professionally after graduation which I am extremely grateful for, but it was not until I retired from playing that I realized the impact the University had on me.  The education that I received was incredible and it amazes me to this day how I use that knowledge.  By far the greatest gift the University of Denver gave me was maturity and growth.  Through academics and athletics I became a master of time management, discipline and integrity.  It was these three attributes that I learned indirectly that prepared me for life after hockey.

What advice do you have for the current Pioneers about life after college?

Be prepared for a whole new world and a whole new set of responsibilities.  Your day-to-day life as a student is easy compared to the challenges you will face after college.  With that being said, cherish your time as a Pioneer and enjoy every second of it.  My four years at DU created so many friends and memories, but my professional life after college and hockey are defining the person I have become and what I am truly made of!
