Four Pioneers Selected for All-BIG EAST Honors

May 2, 2018

DENVER-- Quintin Hoch-Bullen (Severn, Ontario) earned BIG EAST Co-Freshman of the Year to highlight four Denver players who were named to the All-BIG EAST team as announced by the conference on Wednesday.

Junior attacker Julia Feiss (Baltimore, Md.) and redshirt junior defender Kennedy Milburn (Whitby, Ontario) earned first team distinction, while junior draw specialist Maddie Baum (Piedmont, Calif.) and attacker Hoch-Bullen earned a place on the second team.

This is the first all-conference recognition for each player and the first time since 2015 that a Pioneer player has won a major conference award, when Nicole Martindale was named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Rookie of the Year.

The freshman attacker was awarded Co-Freshman of the Year as well as was named to the second team after a consistent rookie season, tallying 48 points on 34 goals and 14 assists in the season, and twice earning BIG EAST Freshman of the Week. She is second on the team in goals, assists and points, as well as in free-position goals with 10 on the season. In her first year at Denver, Hoch-Bullen recorded a team-high seven hat tricks, with four-consecutive hat tricks spanning from the Niagara game on March 10 to the Colorado game on March 29. Twice this season, the freshman tallied five goals and twice this season she recorded six points. The Severn, Ontario, native led the Pioneers in scoring in four contests, while tying the team-high in one game, led the team in assists in one game with a tie for the team-high in two games, and led the team in points in three games. Hoch-Bullen is also currently nationally ranked in goals per game (2.13), shot percentage (.515), free-position percentage (.625, 10-for-16), free-position goals per game (.63) and points per game (3.0). She was also credited with six ground balls, four caused turnovers and 50 of her 66 shots on the year have been on goal for a shot on goal percentage of .758. Hoch-Bullen enters the BIG EAST Tournament on an 11-game point streak.

Feiss was selected for the first team for the first time in her career after being named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST team, and earning BIG EAST Attacker of the Week in week five of the season. During the season, Feiss scored a team-high 41 goals and 50 points, and has scored a goal in every game. She led the team in goals in four games and tied for the team-high in four games while recording six hat tricks. Against Niagara, the junior had a career-high eight goals and nine points, which tied the school record for the most goals scored by an individual in a game. Nationally, the Baltimore native is ranked in goals, goals per game (2.56), shots per game (6.0), shots on goal per game (4.25), points, points per game (3.13) and free-position percentage (.560) with a team-high 14 goals on 25 opportunities. Feiss also accumulated 12 ground balls, five caused turnovers and four draw controls to date.

Milburn earned a place on the first team for the first time in her career after a season in which she started every game and led the Pioneers with 31 ground balls and 21 caused turnovers. The defender had the best season of her career in 2018 with season bests in ground balls, draw controls and caused turnovers. Coming into the year, Milburn had 38 ground balls, 11 draw controls and 25 caused turnovers to her name, nearly matching those totals alone in ground balls and caused turnovers and more than doubling her number of draw controls. In three games this year, Milburn had the team-high in ground balls, twice she had the team-high in caused turnovers and tied for the team-high in draw controls in the game versus Villanova. The redshirt junior also tallied a goal this season, which came in the last regular season game at Vanderbilt to put DU on the board. She finished the regular season with a career-high two points after being credited with an assist against Butler, as well as a career high in ground balls (five, at Louisville), draw controls (four, versus Villanova) and tied her career high in caused turnovers with three against Florida. Milburn is nationally ranked in caused turnovers per game with 1.31.

Baum had a historic year for the Pioneers in her role as a draw specialist, collecting 82 draw controls to date to earn second team. Coming into the season, the California native had just four draw controls in 10 appearances. Twice this season, Baum has reached double digits in draw controls and had a game-high in five games. On March 10, versus Niagara, Baum set the program record for draw controls by an individual in a single-game with 16, collecting 16 of the team's 24 in the contest. Her 82 draw controls currently ranks second all-time in the number of draw controls by an individual in a single-season. The draw specialist was also credited with an assist in the game against Niagara and a caused turnover, which came versus Florida. It is the first league honor in the junior's career.
