Denver Hosts New Mexico in Exhibition Finale Wednesday

Pioneers welcome former conference rivals back to the Mile High City Wednesday at 7 p.m. MT

DENVER – The University of Denver men's soccer program will host New Mexico Wednesday at 7 p.m. MT in the Pioneers' final exhibition ahead of the 2018 campaign. Admission to Wednesday's game is free.

Denver and New Mexico are former Mountain Pacific Sports Federation rivals before the Lobos headed out to Conference USA and the Pioneers joined The Summit League.

The Pioneers are coming off a 1-0 win in their exhibition opener at No. 4 Akron last Saturday.

Head coach Jamie Franks enters his fourth season as head coach and his sixth season with the program overall. The Pioneers have recorded six-straight 10-win seasons for the first time in program history, including back-to-back unbeaten regular seasons in Franks first two years as the program's bench boss. Denver is 81-25-16 since Franks' arrival as an assistant, including 46-8-8 as the head coach.

Denver is co-captained by striker Andre Shinyashiki and centerback Scott DeVoss in 2018. Shinyashiki has made 61 appearances in his first three seasons, netting 23 goals and adding 11 assists for 57 career points. Of his 23 goals, eight have been game-winners, including five in the Pioneers' run to the College Cup in 2016.

DeVoss has played and started in 61 matches, scoring five goals off set-pieces, including two game-winners. The four-year starter has also led a Denver defense that has consistently been ranked among the top in the country.

Shinyashiki, DeVoss and the rest of the senior class have combined for a 46-8-8 record, tying for fourth in the country in senior class wins entering the campaign. Denver has claimed 78.5 percent of its possible points since the start of the 2015 season, the third-highest rate in the country behind Wake Forest and Stanford.

Denver will play nine teams that appeared in the 2018 United Soccer Coaches Preseason Poll, including the Pioneers visit to Akron last weekend.
