McCoy Goes Low as Pioneers Rise Up to Finish 4th at Ram Masters

Ft. Collins, Colo. – The University of Denver men's golf team rose up on Tuesday, climbing three spots to finish fourth at the Ram Masters Invitational. The Pioneers were dialed in the course, posting a team score of 2-over for the day.
DU's 2-over 282 was the lowest score of the round for all teams on the day.
Par for the 7,218-yard course was 70.
Host Colorado State took home the team title for the fifth straight year at 4-under, 14 strokes ahead of Illinois State.
"A great first event for the guys capturing 13 wins," head coach Erik Billinger said. "I couldn't be more proud of Cal for his top-5 finish and also Jun had a top-15 finish and all the guys showed me good stuff individually. Fort Collins was playing tough on the back nine today so Cal's 66 was really impressive. Like I've been saying, this team is good and it's going to be a fun year."
Billinger went with the lineup of Esteban Missura, Jackson Solem, Carson Griggs, Jun Ho Won and Cal McCoy.
McCoy continued his impressive debut for the Crimson and Gold, firing a team low round of 66 (4-under) on the afternoon, jumping him up into fourth place. The Highlands Ranch native was dominant, recording five birdies on a day when the course was playing tough. The freshman finished out the tournament at 2-under.
"I was very proud of how the team played yesterday and today, "McCoy said. "We talked about finishing strong today and we did a great job doing that. For the first event of the year, I think we got off to a good start and we still have a long season ahead of us."
Won kept up his good play from yesterday, firing another 1-under 69 for a second-consecutive round to close out his first tournament tied for 11th.
Missura wrapped up his day in a tie for 31st thanks to his best round of the tournament on Monday, a 1-over 71.
Griggs tied for a 54th and Solem 62nd after the duo shot a 76 for round three.
Eric Hagen, John Sand and Roy Kang also competed, but as individuals.
Denver is back in action next week for the Tucker Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M. Rounds one and two are set to be played on Sept. 28.
