Pioneers Finish T-11 at Tucker Invitational

Albuquerque, N.M. – The University of Denver men's golf team finished in a tie for 11th place out of 17 teams at the William H. Tucker Invitational at the New Mexico South Golf Course.
Par for the 7,555-yard course was 72.
BYU took home the team title at 16-under, two strokes ahead of UNLV.
Denver posted a total score of 896 ( 32) over the three round tournament.
"The positives coming out of this event is the impressive individual performance we had from Carson Griggs who finished T13 as a freshman in a really strong field on a really tough golf course," said head coach Eric Billinger. "As a team, our finish was disappointing. We didn't finish well today on the tough holes and we didn't handle the high rough and tough pins very well. Overall, we are a lot better than we showed this week and we will show that next week at our home tournament. We need to stay positive and work really hard going forward."
Billinger went with the lineup of Cal McCoy, Jun Ho Won, Esteban Missura, Jackson Solem and Eric Hagen.
Missura continued his solid play in round three, firing a final round 74 ( 2) to finish in a tie for 37th place. The redshirt freshman made nine birdies over the three rounds.
Won, who finished in a tie for 40th place shot a final round 75 ( 3) that included three birdies. The transfer from Boise State recorded 13 birdies during the event and fired a second round 71 for his low total of the event.
Hagen finished tied for 57th after a round of 78 ( 6) that included two birdies.
McCoy finished tied for 70th while Solem finished tied for 91st after third rounds of 78 ( 6) and 81 ( 9) respectively.
Carson Griggs also competed but as an individual, delivering a final round 74 ( 2) to finish tied for 13th.
"I felt this course really fit my game and I was confident while standing over the ball," said Griggs. "I feel really good about our home tournament and I think the team is hungry and ready to play their hearts out. We have a ton of talent and I'm so happy to be a part of this team."
The Pioneers are back in action next week to host the Paintbrush Invitational at Colorado Country Club from Oct. 8-9.
