ATLANTA – The University of Denver men's and women's swimming and diving teams dropped a pair of duals to Georgia Tech on Saturday at the McAuley Aquatic Center.
Denver opened the second day of the meet with a victory in the 200 medley relay.
Heidi Bradley,
Brandi Vu,
Kylie Cronin, and
Lauren Moden combined for a 1:43.37 to take first in the first relay of the day. The victory for the Denver women was their fifth in the 200 medley relay and the women's program's ninth medley relay win overall this season.
Cronin picked up her second win in as many Saturday dives in the water in the 100 fly, taking the race in 55.82. Teammate
Josie Valette was right behind her to take second with a 56.42 and
Avery Niemann grabbed fourth (57.89) to round out the point-getters for Denver in the race. Cronin's victory was her third in the 100 fly and her seventh butterfly victory overall.
Denver's women didn't win the 200 breast, but did take the other two spots on the podium when
Charlotte Simon finished ahead of Vu for second with a 2:19.06.
Adriel Sanes got the Denver men in the win column in the 200 breast with his 2:04.44.
David Mihalic took third and
Anthony Nosack reached the wall in fourth in an event that saw Denver occupy four of the top five spots. Sanes win was his second in the event this year and his fourth individual event win overall to go with eight relay victories.
Following her fast swim in the 200 medley to begin the morning, Moden earned her fourth victory in the 50 free this season, swimming the event in 23.57.
Cameron Auchinachie and
Jackson Gainer finished 2-3 in the men's 50 free on Saturday with times of 20.17 and 20.70, respectively.
Gilbert picked up his eighth distance victory of the year, winning the 500 free with a 4:29.32.
Denver's men ended the meet with a 3:00.96 in the 400 free relay to earn a win for Auchinachie,
Hugo Sykes,
Neil Wachtler and Sanes. The victory for the men was their fourth in the event this year and their seventh in a freestyle relay.
Mihalic (400 IM/3:59.27), Gilbert (200 Free/1:39.37), Bradley (1000 Back/56.04) also each earned individual second place finishes on Saturday.
