D’Addario Returns to Denver Program as Head Diving Coach

The Pioneers will open their 2019-20 season on Saturday with the Denver Relays

DENVER – The University of Denver Division of Athletics and Recreation has named Aaron D'Addario its diving coach, men's and women's swimming and diving head coach Alicia Hicken-Franklin announced on Friday.

"I'm extremely grateful to the University of Denver and Alicia for allowing me the opportunity to return to this amazing school that has a special place in my heart," D'Addario said. "I am excited to work with the studious DU divers, increasing their knowledge, skills and abilities both in and out of the pool. I cannot wait to apply the knowledge that I've gained in education and performance psychology with the Pioneer student-athletes."

D'Addario served in the same role from 2009 to 2013, earning Sun Belt Men's Diving Coach of the Year honors in 2010 and 2011. The newest member of Hicken Franklin's staff coached the men's diver of the year in the Sun Belt Conference in 2010, 2011 and 2012.

During his previous stint with the Pioneers, D'Addario served on the NCAA Swimming and Diving Committee in his final two years with the program. D'Addario was the head judge coordinator for USA Diving JO Nationals from 2011-14 and was a FINA International judge from 2011-15. Following his time at Denver, D'Addario has also been a judge at the Mountain West Conference Championship and has been involved in the NCAA Men's and Women's Championships, including as the diving referee at the 2015 men's championship.

Since his first stint in Denver, which was capped off with a masters in Sport and Performance and Psychology, D'Addario has been working on his sport psychology doctorate at Florida State University's College of Education, which he will complete with his dissertation in the near future. During his time in Tallahassee, D'Addario has been a graduate teaching assistant for Introduction into Sport and Exercise Psychology and Performance Psychology courses. D'Addario has also worked as an applied mental performance consultant since 2015.

In his collegiate career, D'Addario was a captain of the 2002-03 Union College Swimming and Diving team before serving as the head diving coach for his alma mater from 2003-06.
