DENVER – The University of Denver men's golf team claimed the team title, while
Jackson Solem claimed co-medalist honors at the Ron Moore Intercollegiate on Sunday at the par-71, 7,285 yard University of Denver Golf Club at Highlands Ranch.
Denver fired a third-round team total of 285 (1-over) to finish in first place with a 54-hole score of 846 (6-under), three strokes ahead of second-place North Dakota State.
"It is always fun to win," said head coach
Erik Billinger. "There is always a little extra pressure on the home course. You have the fans around that expect you to win and on top of that I had to decide which five guys to play. I am proud of the guys for pulling it off."
Solem, playing as an individual, utilized six birdies in his third straight round below par to earn co-medalist honors. The Longmont native carded a career-best 18-hole score of 66 (5-under) in the third round to finish 9-under (204). It is his first victory as a Pioneer.
"

The Pioneers were represented with two teams in the field. The first team will included
Connor Jones,
John Sand,
Jun Ho Won, Esteban Missura, and
Cal McCoy. Billinger went with
Brady Arnett,
Roy Kang,
Jackson Solem,
Carson Griggs, and
Eric Hagen on the second team.
McCoy recorded his first top-five finish of the year, fourth place with a 54-hole score of 206 (7-under). The sophomore notched three straight below par rounds with a 68 (3-under) on Sunday's final round.
In ninth place came Ho Won after scoring 1-over par on Sunday. He finished even on the front nine to finish the tournament with a three-round total of 211 (2-under).
Additionally, three other Pioneers –Kang, Missura, and Jones – recorded top-25 finishes. Kang tied for 16th with a score of 215 (2-over), while Missura and Jones tied for 21st after carding a 218 (5-over).
Following a short break, the Crimson and Gold return to action Oct. 28-30 in Honolulu, Hawaii for the Hoakalei CC Collegiate Invitational.
