SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Senior Madison Nelson has been named the Summit League Co-Player of the Week, the league announced Monday. The honor is the third of her career.

Nelson posted back-to-back double-doubles in a pair of Pioneer wins this past week. The senior proved to be too much down on the low block, posting averages 18.5 points and 12.5 rebounds in the two victories.

The Dover, Minn. native now has recorded three doubles on the season, most in the Summit League and second in the nation. 

Nelson started the week in style, putting up a 17-point, 14-rebound performance in a 71-57 victory against Wyoming on Nov. 14, handing the Cowgirls their first loss of the year. The preseason first-team All-Summit League selection followed that up by scoring a season-high 20 points to go with 11 rebounds in a dominant DU win against Cal Poly on Nov. 17 in Hamilton Gymnasium. 

On the season, Nelson has taken her game to another level, averaging 17.8 points, 11.5 rebounds, 2.5 steals, and 1.5 blocks per game, all career highs. The former Dover-Eyota High standout's 11.5 rebound average leads the Summit League and also ranks 20th in the country. Her 17.8 points per game average also ranks third in the Summit League this year.
