SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Senior
Madison Nelson has been named the Summit League Player of the Week, the league announced Monday. The honor is the fourth of her career and second this season with the last coming Nov. 18.
Nelson posted back-to-back double-doubles in the Pioneer Thanksgiving Classic Nov. 29 and 30, along with being named to the All-Tournament Team.
The Dover, Minnesota native scored 24 points and grabbed a career-high 21 rebounds in an 83-75 win over UC Irvine on Nov. 29, only the second 20-20 performance in program history. In the same tournament last season, Nelson recorded the first 20-20 performance in school history with 23 points and 20 rebounds against Lamar on Nov. 23, 2018.
It was a dominating weekend for the senior, who posted averages of 24.5 points and 17.0 rebounds per game.
The Preseason Summit League First-Team selection brought her double-double streak to six straight and 18 in her career. Her six double-doubles this season leads the Summit League and is fourth best in the nation.
Through seven games this season, Nelson has been nearly unstoppable, averaging 20.1 points, 12.9 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 2.0 steals, all career-highs. The former Dover-Eyota High School standout's 12.9 rebounding average leads the Summit League and is third highest in the country.
