PRINCETON, N.J. – The University of Denver men's and women's swimming and diving programs had 15 swimmers qualify for tonight's scoring finals (A+B) after strong swims in the opening prelims session of the 2019 Big Al Open on Friday at Denunzio Pool.
Denver finished the morning session strong with four spots in tonight's 50 free A-Finals between the men's and women's programs.
2019 NCAA Qualifier
Josie Valette (Boulder, Colo.) clocked in at 23.05, a personal best for the Denver senior, to take third in the prelims. Junior
Aysia Leckie (Georgetown, Ontario) will join Valette in tonight's A-Final after her 23.17 to finish seventh. Freshman
Erika Remington (Cedarburg, Wis.) punched her ticket to the B-Final with a 23.38 (12
th).
In his first collegiate meet since the 2018 NCAA Championships, redshirt-junior
Sid Farber (Portland, Ore.) out-raced the field in this morning's 50 free prelims with an NCAA B-Standard time of 19.18. Farber's time was 0.05 seconds faster than his previous collegiate best and 0.05 seconds off teammate
Cameron Auchinachie's (Binghamton, N.Y.) school record. Auchinachie will join Farber in tonight's A-Final after his 19.30 that took second in the prelims. Junior
Jackson Gainer (San Jose, Calif.) and freshman
Spencer Adrian (Portland, Ore.) will take part in the B-Final tonight after finishing 10
th and 15
th, respectively.
Denver's women's program opened the meet with two swimmers qualifying for tonight's 500 free B-Final. Sophomore
Angie Lindsay (Beaverton, Ore.) and senior
Andi Johnston (Fort Collins, Colo.) both qualified for the B-Final with times of 4:56.24 and 4:57.22, respectively.
On the men's side, with multi-conference champion distance swimmer
Colin Gilbert (Kamloops, B.C.) at the 2019 U.S. Open Championships this week, freshman
Riley Babson (Vail, Ariz.) was the first Pioneer swimmer to qualify for an A-Final with his 4:24.39 in the 500 free. Senior
Jesse Haraden (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) earned a spot in tonight's B-Final with his 4:29.95.
Denver's women put two in the B-Final in the 200 IM. Senior
Kylie Cronin (Marblehead, Mass.) and junior
Charlotte Simon (Saint Remy, France) finished 11
th and 15
th respectively in this morning's prelims with times of 2:02.66 and 2:03.98.

Adriel Sanes (Rosharon, Texas) became the second Pioneer on Friday to book a spot into an A-Final with his career-best 1:47.95 in the 200 IM to take sixth. Senior
Neil Wachtler (Waco, Texas) qualified for the B-Final with a 13
th place finish in 1:50.02.
In international swimming at the 2019 U.S. Open Championships in Atlanta, sophomore
Patrick Groters (Santa Cruz, Aruba) finished 14
th in in last night's 200 IM Finals, clocking in at 2:01.84. In the prelims Thursday, Groters earned a FINA B-Cut with his 2:01.62.
