DENVER –University of Denver men's basketball senior
Ronnie Harrell Jr. was named to the Summit League All-Newcomer team in a release by the league on Thursday. The Denver native finished with a career-best 12.9 points per game average this year.
The All-Newcomer Team consisted of freshman and transfers playing in their first season in the Summit League. Joining Harrell Jr. was Matt Holba (junior, Purdue Fort Wayne), Cody Kelley (junior, South Dakota), Kevin Obanor (freshman, Oral Roberts) and Vinnie Shahid (junior, North Dakota State).
The 6-foot-7 rangy wing provided the Pioneers with scoring and rebounding during the 2018-19 campaign, finishing with a team-high 19 games scoring in double figures.
Harrell Jr. also showcased his versatility on the court, notching four double-doubles for the year and also led the team in rebounding with a 5.5 per game average.
He was a threat from deep, knocking down 50 3s in 29 games played, second most on the team.
The DU standout recorded a career-high 25 points on 11-for-19 shooting while also adding eight rebounds and five assists in a return visit to Omaha on Dec. 28.
Denver will return to the hardwood in the fall.
