Cole French Named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week

The Pioneer goalie made 10 saves and allowed just six goals in over 40 minutes on Saturday

NEW YORK – University of Denver freshman goalie Cole French (Danville, Calif.) has been named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday.

French played the final 42 minutes in goal in his collegiate debut on Saturday in the Pioneers' 15-12 win at St. John's. Brother of senior captain Austin French, Cole stopped 10 of 16 shots on goal, leading the conference in save percentage last weekend.

Junior attack Ethan Walker (Peterborough, Ontario) and freshman faceoff specialist Brett Boos (Parker, Colo.) were named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll. Walker netted his third career sock trick, while Boos won 23-of-31 faceoffs, picking up eight ground balls.

Earlier on Monday, Denver moved up a spot to 12th in the USILA Coaches' Poll and up two spots to 13th in the Inside Lacrosse Media Poll. Denver also bumped up two spots in the Lacrosse Magazine Poll from 14th to 12th.
