DENVER – Denver Pioneers men's hockey freshman goalie
Filip Larsson has been named Hockey Commissioners' Association National Rookie of the Month for April/March, the Hockey Commissioners Association announced on Monday.
Through 8 games in March and April, Larsson posted a 5-3-0 record with a league-leading 1.22 goals against average, .957 save percentage and three shutouts. The Red Wings' sixth round selection shined for the Pioneers in the postseason, starting in six of Denver's seven games with a 4-2-0 record, 1.12 GAA, .962 SV% and three shutouts. Larsson finished his freshman season with a 13-6-3 record, a 1.95 GAA, 11
th in the NCAA and 3rd among NCAA freshmen, .932 SV%, 6
th in the NCAA and 2
nd among NCAA freshmen and four shutouts in his freshman season.
Larsson was twice named NCHC Goalie of the Week, tabbed NCHC Goalie of the Month for December, selected for the NCHC All-Rookie Team, was a finalist for NCHC Goalie of the Year and was a co-recipient of the Pioneers' Bill Masterton Award for Team MVP. He was recently named NCHC Rookie of the Month. His career .932 SV% ranks 2
nd in all-time school history and is tied for 3
rd in the single-season records. Larsson's career 1.95 GAA ranks 2
nd in all-time school history and is seventh in the single-season records.
Prior to his time in Denver, the Stockholm, Sweden native was named 2018 USHL Goalie of the Year as a member of the Tri-City Storm and won a silver medal with Sweden at the 2018 IIHF World Junior Championship. He signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Detroit Red Wings on April 15.
