Bozak, Butler, Affleck Lift Stanley Cup with St. Louis Blues

Denver Pioneers men's hockey alumni Tyler Bozak, Chris Butler and Bruce Affleck lifted the Stanley Cup following the St. Louis Blues' 4-1 Game 7 victory against the Boston Bruins on Wednesday at the TD Garden in Boston, Mass. The trio will join six-time winner Glenn Anderson and two-time winner John MacMillan as Pioneer alumni who have raised the Stanley Cup.

Bozak logged 38 points in 72 games for the Blues during the regular season and had 13 points in 26 playoff games. Prior to joining the Blues last summer, Bozak played nine seasons with the Toronto Maple Leafs. In two years with the Pioneers, the electrifying forward from Regina, Saskatchewan posted 26 goals and 31 assists in 60 NCAA games. In his second season, Bozak helped pace the Crimson & Gold with 34 points in 41 games, an effort that helped Denver win the WCHA Tournament and earn a spot in the 2008 NCAA Tournament. Bozak was named to the 2008 WCHA All-Rookie Team, 2008 WCHA Third All-Star Team and the 2009 WCHA All-Academic Team.

Butler had two points through 13 games in his 11th NHL season and fourth with the Blues. He played the majority of the 2018-19 season as captain of the Blues' AHL affiliate, the San Antonio Rampage. In three seasons at the University of Denver, Butler established himself as a premier defenseman for the Pioneers with 20 goals and 46 assists in 115 games. The St. Louis, Missouri native began his collegiate career with 2006 WCHA All-Rookie Team honors and finished his tenure with the Crimson & Gold as a 2008 Second-Team All-American and member of the WCHA Second All-Star Team. Butler served as an alternate captain in his final season, helping the Pioneers to a WCHA Tournament championship and berth in the NCAA Tournament.

Affleck serves as the Executive Vice President of the Blues, having first joined the organization in 1987 after a 10-year professional playing career. He played for St. Louis from 1974-1979 after a two-year stint with the Pioneers where he totaled 56 points in 77 games for the Crimson & Gold.
