Turgeon Tabs Crystal Reed as Assistant Coach

Reed set to join staff for upcoming year

DENVER – University of Denver women's basketball head coach Jim Turgeon announced the addition of Crystal Reed to his staff on Thursday. The San Antonio, Texas native will join the staff as an assistant coach for the upcoming 2019-20 year.

Reed is no stranger to being in Colorado, having spent the past four years as an assistant coach at Littleton High School. She also served as the level C basketball coach, leading the team to a 37-1 record while coaching several Jefferson County 4A All-League players. Reed was recognized for her good work, being named the 2019 Jefferson County 4A Assistant Coach of the Year.

"I'm really excited for Crystal to join our staff," Turgeon said. "This is the first player of mine that I've hired to coach with me. Her ability to communicate and her work ethic will be a tremendous asset to our program."

Prior to coaching at Littleton High School, Reed was an assistant coach at Dodge City Community College in Dodge City, Kan., from 2011 to 2015. While there, she was responsible for recruiting and player development. Reed coached several players who received KJCCC all-conference accolades, along with having a successful 2013-14 season, starting off 10-1 and knocking off No. 1 seed Coffeyville in the Jayhawk Regional Tournament as a seven seed.

"I'm super excited to have the opportunity to be part of DU women's basketball," Reed said. "This is an exciting time to work with such great people. Coach Turgeon has been an influential person in my life and to be working beside him means the world to me."

Reed began her basketball career as a player under Turgeon at Dodge City Community College in Kansas. Reed helped Dodge City knock off several national-ranked opponents in a tough Kansas Jayhawk league, along with assisting and gaining national recognition.

Reed went on to play Division I basketball at Birmingham-Southern College, leading the team in rebounds and steals in 2004-05.
Denver returns to the hardwood in the fall.
