DENVER – University of Denver women's basketball head coach
Jim Turgeon announced the signing of
Sophia Zulich on Monday. The incoming freshman has signed her National Letter of Intent (NLI) to continue her academic and athletic career with the Pioneers.
Zulich joins DU by way of Ontario, Canada, where she starred at Crestwood Prep during her final year of high school. Not only successful on the court, but the 6-foot-1 forward was a four-time honor-roll student.
"We are so happy to have Sophia join us here at Denver," Turgeon said. "Everything about her just fits our program on and off the court. Her size and ability to shoot the 3, along with her toughness, are really going to impact our team in a positive way. She is an independent, mature young lady that comes from a great family and we couldn't be more excited about adding her to our roster."
As a multi-sport athlete, Zulich was named captain and Most Valuable Player (MVP) during her senior season at Crestwood for both the basketball and volleyball teams.
Zulich started playing basketball at age 13. She left her hometown of Sudbury, Ontario, at 14 after playing for Team Ontario. The incoming Pioneer forward jumped between high-level Ontario high schools until her final year at Crestwood this past season, where they were Ontario Scholastic Basketball Association (OBSA) Champions her senior year.
Denver returns to the hardwood in the fall.
