Men's Soccer Alumni Q+A: Stewart Stockdale

Where are you originally from? Mexico City
Why did you choose to attend DU? I applied to DU because it was recommended to me by my high school counselor as a great business school. I applied, got in and didn't consider other schools. I never visited the school before attending, but the images of the school with the Rocky Mountain background sold me.
Where are you now/what are you doing?: I live in Darien, Ct. with my wife and six kids. I recently left the position of CEO for J.G. Wentworth. Before that I was President at Western Union. In May of this year I am launching a Fintech venture in the banking and payments sectors called Rellevate.
Last time you touched a soccer ball/where?: About 18 months ago I joined the J.G. Wentworth soccer team made up of a bunch of 20 and 30 year olds that mostly played in college. I held my own...I now focus on paddle tennis and golf.
Highlight/favorite soccer memory from your time at DU: The best part of my soccer career at DU were the friendships I made those years. They were Priceless! The highlight was reaching nationals my last year.
When is the last time you were back on campus? Do you get back often? When I was at Western Union, I actually lived in Denver for 5 years, but left almost 7 years ago. I was very involved with DU sitting on the Daniels Advisory Board and taking my kids to sporting events. The school and the sporting facilities are phenomenal! I don't get back as often now.
Favorite non-soccer memory from your time at DU: There were many wonderful memories of my time at DU. The classes and professors, the mountains, the friendships, the parties, but somehow, the Border seems to always make it towards the top of the stories.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?  Still living in Connecticut with my wife, working hard on whatever business venture I am on at the time, and having our six kids visit us often.
What is your greatest accomplishment? My family. I have a wonderful wife and six children who are healthy, smart, athletic and good natured. All of them will likely play a college varsity sport.
What advice do you have for the current Pioneers about life after college?: Chart your own course.  Exploit what makes you different versus what makes you conform with everyone else.  Set long term goals, but short term milestones that cumulatively take you to your long term goals.  Make sacrifices, but enjoy the ride!
