DENVER –The University of Denver women's golf team and head coach
Lindsay Kuhle announced the 2019-20 fall schedule on Monday. The Pioneers will play in five tournaments during the upcoming fall season.
DU opens the season on the road in Pullman, Wash. for the Washington State Cougar Cup on Sept. 16. The two-day event concludes on Sept. 17.
"We are excited to go to Pullman for the first time with our program and compete at the course where the Regional Championship will be held this spring," Kuhle said.
The Crimson and Gold then head up to the mountains to play host for the GolfWeek Conference Challenge, which features a talented field from around the country. The 54-hole tournament starts on Sept. 23 at Red Sky Golf Club in Wolcott, Colo.
"We then go to the Golfweek Conference Challenge for our 10th year playing in this event," Kuhle said. "We've had great success here, winning in 2017 and finishing in the top four last year. We love this course, the hospitality, and staying in Vail Village.
"You are rewarded with good touch and a strong short game.
Mary Weinstein shot our program-record 64 (8-under) last fall in the final round to finish in third place. She as well as our other players have a lot of confidence on this course."
Denver stays in state to host the Ron Moore Invitational on Oct. 6 on its home course at the University of Denver Golf Club at Highlands Ranch. This year's tournament features a different format than in years past, going with a 36-hole individual format.
"We play all our players in our home tournament at the Ron Moore Intercollegiate tournament that is an individual tournament consisting of players from CSU, UNC, and Wyoming at our home course," Kuhle added. "It's always nice to play in an event early in the year on your home course that you are comfortable and confident. We will host the 36-hole event with the men's team that weekend."
The Pioneers head to Austin, Texas for the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational on Oct. 12 for a two-day event hosted by Texas.
Denver closes out the fall with the Battle at the Beach in Cabo San Lucas. The tournament is hosted by TCU, who is taking over for Baylor, who hosted it in 2018.
"Finally, we finish out the fall season in Cabo San Lucas at La Campestre Golf Club where we competed last year when Baylor hosted the event," Kuhle said. "This was one of our favorite tournaments of the entire year. It features 10 teams from Power-5 conferences that will be competing in this event.
"It is 18 holes each day in carts. This type of course in Mexico on the ocean, this time of year, requires accurate ball striking. It can get windy and the course can be challenging. We look forward to this event as the last tournament in the fall in a fabulous location of Cabo."
