DENVER – University of Denver women's basketball head coach
Jim Turgeon announced the 2019-20 non-league schedule Friday.
The Pioneers will play 13 non-league matchups, highlighted by the Pioneer Thanksgiving Classic and a trip to Puerto Rico.
"Our non-league schedule is finally getting to where it should be for where we are at with our program," said Turgeon. "I'm really excited about the Puerto Rico trip. We did that to honor how hard our seniors have worked and for believing in me and sticking with it. They deserve it."
Denver opens the regular season on the road against UMKC on Nov. 5, followed by its home opener on Nov. 9 against New Mexico State at 3:30 p.m. (MT) in Magness Arena.
The home opener will be followed by a six-game homestand against Wyoming (Nov. 14), Cal Poly (Nov. 17), Colorado Christian (Nov. 21), UC Irvine (Nov. 29), Alabama A&M (Nov. 30), and Northern Colorado (Dec. 4). The games against UC Irvine and Alabama A&M are part of the Pioneer Thanksgiving Classic that will be played Nov. 29 and 30, which will also features North Alabama.
The Crimson and Gold will then hit the road for contests against Lamar (Dec. 8) and in-state foe Colorado (Dec. 12) before returning home to face Southern Utah (Dec. 16).
DU caps off the non-league portion of its schedule in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Dec. 20 and 21, to take on Akron and Western Michigan.
