DENVER – The University of Denver men's basketball dropped a nail biter on Saturday, falling 73-70 to Dixie State in Hamilton Gymnasium.

Jase Townsend poured in a team-high 21 points in the loss, his second game this year with at least 20 in a contest.

Sam Hines Jr. also had a career-high 11 points in his first career start, his second straight game in double figures.

As it Happened:
First Half:
The Crimson and Gold overcame a sluggish start to cut a nine-point deficit to four by the half, 40-36. Denver took its last lead at 32-30 on a nice made 3 from
Drake Muller with 2:17 to go in the opening period.
Second Half:
Second half saw Townsend heat up on the offensive end, helping spark a Denver 13-6 run that brought the game to within one at 58-57 with 6:31 left in regulation. The Pioneers had their chances late, but a bucket from Jacob Nicolds with 30 seconds left put Dixie State up four, forcing DU to play the foul game the rest of the way.

DU (1-3) stays home for a meeting with Northern Colorado (2-0) on Wednesday, Dec. 16.
