MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Former University of Denver men's basketball standout Ade Murkey officially signed his exhibit 10 contract on Thursday with the Minnesota Timberwolves in a release by the team.
Murkey, who was a Second Team All-Summit League selection last year, had a stellar campaign in 2019-20. The Minneapolis native averaged a career-best 18.6 points per game, which was second highest in the Summit League. He set the Pioneer Division I single-game points record with 42 at South Dakota State on Feb. 14.
"It feels good though honestly, like really good." Murkey said. "Growing up, I was always slept on in Minnesota. Not many people know who I am besides other players from the state, so being recognized by the Timberwolves, the hometown team, feels amazing. Just to know that all the work I put in is paying off is an incredible feeling."
The 6-foot-5 athletic guard is the first DU player to sign with an NBA team since 2014, when Chris Udofia signed to play for the Houston Rockets summer league team.
Murkey finished his career with 1,251 points for Denver, good for 16th on the program's all-time scoring list.
The Minneapolis native played his high school ball at St. Croix Lutheran, where he is the Crusaders' all-time leader in both assists and steals.
Training camp for the Timberwolves begins on Sunday with the first of team practices scheduled.
