No. 1 North Dakota defeated No. 4 Denver 4-3 in overtime, taking its first lead of the game with 4:26 remaining in regulation and holding a lead for only 1:34 of the night before Jordan Kawaguchi's overtime winner. Carter Savoie scored twice for the Pioneers, while Mike Benning & Bobby Brink each had two assists. Magnus Chrona made 31 saves.

Series History
DU leads the all-time series 53-47-6 and is 5-4-1 in the last 10 games after going 3-1-0 against the Huskies last season. Brett Stapley leads the Pioneers against St. Cloud State with two goals and six assists in six games.

Last Meeting
Denver split its series at St. Cloud State on Feb. 28 & 29, falling 5-1 on Friday before responding with a 5-2 win on Saturday. Jake Durfligner and Kohen Olischefski were the lone returners to have scored in the last series vs. the Huskies.

• Carter Savoie has three goals in his first two NCAA games. He is the first Pioneer to score in his first two career games since Patrick Wiercioch (2008)
• The Pioneers are wearing jersey patches with the letters "JB" honoring the late Joy Burns whose vast contributions to DU included becoming the first woman to chair the University of Denver Board of Trustees, which she did for 17 years, making direct contributions to the physical transformation of campus and helping the athletic department move to Division I
• Denver returns 63% of its goal scoring and 60% of its point production from last season. Juniors Cole Guttman and Brett Stapley eclipsed the 25-point mark last season: Stapley (5-25-30), Guttman (14-14-28)
• Bobby Brink was one of two unanimous selections for the NCHC All-Rookie team and was a finalist for NCHC Rookie of the Year. He finished second in NCHC rookie scoring with 11 goals and 13 assists in 28 games
• Magnus Chrona was named to the NCHC All-Rookie Team and was a finalist for NCHC Goalie of the Year with a 16-6-4 record in the regular season. He ranked 3rd among NCAA freshmen, 2nd among NCHC goalies in GAA (2.15) (3rd among NCAA freshmen) and led NCHC goalies in save percentage (.920)
• Denver has four defensemen with more than 25 games played: Griffin Mendel (110), Slava Demin (75), Kyle Mayhew (53), Justin Lee (31)
• Magnus Chrona was picked to the Preseason All-NCHC Team
• DU was picked second in the NCHC preseason poll
• Denver added three grad transfers for 2020-21: Bo Hanson (St. Lawrence), Steven Jandric (Alaska Fairbanks) & Corbin Kaczperski (Yale)
• DU started six of its first seven seasons in December, first dropping the puck on Dec. 19, 1949 vs. Saskatchewan. 1953 marks the last year the Pioneers started a season in December
