Denver dropped its third straight one-goal game with a 4-3 loss to St. Cloud State despite leading the Huskies early in the second period and outshooting St. Cloud State 19-4 in the third period.

Last Meeting
No. 1 North Dakota defeated No. 4 Denver 4-3 in overtime, taking its first lead of the game with 4:26 remaining in regulation and holding a lead for only 1:34 of the night before Jordan Kawaguchi's overtime winner. Carter Savoie scored twice for the Pioneers, while Mike Benning & Bobby Brink each had two assists. Magnus Chrona made 31 saves.

What's Next
The Pioneers will open their season series vs. Miami with another matinee on Thursday, Dec. 10. Puck drop is set for 2:35 p.m. MT. The game will be broadcast on Altitude, NCHC.TV and ESPN Denver 1600

  • Carter Savoie has scored in each of his first three NCAA games, becoming the first Pioneer to accomplish that feat since Drew Shore (2011) and the first Pioneer freshman to do so since Craig Redmond (1983)
  • Then-No. 4 Denver played No. 3 Minnesota Duluth, No. 1 North Dakota and St. Cloud State in its first three games of the NCHC Pod. After the first week of play, Minnesota Duluth and North Dakota retained their rankings while St. Cloud State rose from receiving votes to No. 13
  • Denver has led in each of its first three games of the season. The Pioneers led Minnesota Duluth 1-0 until 13:04 of the third period, North Dakota 2-1 until 13:03 of the third period and St. Cloud State 2-1 until 4:23 of the second period
  • The Pioneers have scored twice on the power play in each of their last two games. Carter Savoie, Mike Benning, Kohen Olischefski and Bobby Brink have been on the ice for every power-play goal. McKade Webster and Cole Guttman have been on the ice for two each
  • Bobby Brink (U.S.) has joined the U.S. camp in Plymouth, Mich. for the IIHF World Junior Championship to be played in Red Deer, Alberta from Dec. 25 - Jan. 5. The U.S.' 29-player preliminary roster was announced on Nov. 27. The final 25-player U.S. roster will be announced on Dec. 13 prior to the U.S. team departing for Edmonton
  • The Pioneers are wearing jersey patches with the letters "JB" honoring the late Joy Burns whose vast contributions to DU included becoming the first woman to chair the University of Denver Board of Trustees, which she did for 17 years, making direct contributions to the physical transformation of campus and helping the athletic department move to Division I
