Behrins Sock Trick Leads [10/9] Pioneers To 15-6 Victory Over Louisville

LOUISVILLE – The [10/9] University of Denver women's lacrosse team earned its first road win of the 2020 season following a 15-6 victory over Louisville on Saturday afternoon.

A Bea Behrins sock trick led the Pioneers offense as the junior scored four goals in the opening 30 minutes of play before adding two in the back half of the contest. Behrins put 11 of her 13 shots on target to pair with one assist. Coming off a five-goal performance last weekend, Hoch-Bullen netted a hat trick while Hannah Liddy notched a team-high six assists. Defensively, Sam Thacker led the Crimson and Gold with three caused turnovers while Kailee Lammers notched a team-high and career-high five ground balls. Carson Gregg spent all 60 minutes in goal recording five saves in the contest while holding the Cardinals to just six goals.

Behrins got the ball rolling for the Pios less than three minutes into the first half before the Cardinals were able to jump out to a 2-1 lead. Exchanging goals midway through, Denver hit its stride on a 4-0 run to end the half with goals coming from Caroline Wiseman, Eliza Radochonski, Liddy and Behrins to send them into the break leading 7-3.

The Pioneers wasted no time in the second frame as a Sammie Morton goal less than two minutes ino the half put the Pios on top 8-4. The Pios kept the momentum on their side, stretching their lead to 10-4 when Ellie Curry and Hoch-Bullen scored back to back goals just 12 seconds apart. Liddy and Behrins linked up for the third time of the afternoon with 20:54 remaining to stretch the DU lead to 12-4. Fending off a few threats form the Cardinals offense, Denver used Behrins' sock-trick goal and a second net from Curry to clinch the 15-6 victory.

The Pioneers will return home on Friday, Feb. 21 to face Oregon at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium (12 PM MT).
