Three Pioneers Capture All-American Honors

Karr, Brown, Vasquez combine for seven awards

DENVER – Three University of Denver gymnasts earned regular season All-American honors, the Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Association announced on Tuesday.

Senior Maddie Karr (Stillwater, Minn.), junior Lynnzee Brown (Kansas City, Mo.) and sophomore Alexis Vasquez (Arcadia, Calif.) combined for seven total awards across all five individual events.

Karr captured honors on four events for the third year in a row, starting with first-team nods in the all-around, and on vault and bars. She also added second-team honors on floor. Her final National Qualifying Scores (NQS) on bars (9.960) and in the all-around (39.680) are new DU records.

The senior finishes with 14 career regular season All-American awards including in the all-around and on vault for all four years. In total, she has 19 combined All-American honors.

Brown landed two All-American honors despite missing the team's final three meets due to injury. She joins Karr as a first team All-American in the all-around, making Denver one of only two programs with multiple first-team all-around honorees. She also finished with second-team honors on floor.

These are the fifth and sixth regular-season All-American honors of Brown's career. She also owns four postseason All-American awards, bringing her career total thus far to 10.

Vasquez earned first team All-American status on beam for the second year in a row after extending her program-record NQS on the event to 9.960. She also set a new Denver record for highest final beam ranking (No. 4).

The DU sophomore has now earned first-team All-American nods on beam three times: twice in the regular season and once in the postseason.

Regular season All-American honors are awarded based on NQS. Student-athletes who are ranked Nos. 1-8 (including ties) earn first-team status while those ranked Nos. 9-16 (including ties) earn second-team status. The NQSs used for 2020 are based on meets that occurred before the season ended due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
