SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – University of Denver senior
Ade Murkey was recognized for his play this season, being named to the All-Summit League Second Team in a release by the league on Thursday. This marks the first time in the senior's career he has been named to an all-league team.
The Minneapolis, Minn. native is having a career year as a senior, posting averages of 18.6 points, 6.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.2 steals per game. The senior has posted 11 games of at least 20 points this season, including a career-best 42-point, 11-rebound double-double at South Dakota State on Feb. 14 as part of a historic weekend that resulted in his first Summit League Player of the Week award.
For that weekend, Murkey averaged 35.0 points, 9.5 rebounds 1.5 steals, 1.0 blocks per game in two contests.
He also becomes the first Pioneer to make it on an all-league team since teammates
Joe Rosga and
Daniel Amigo made the first two teams back in 2018.
South Dakota State's Douglas Wilson was named the league's player of the year after helping guide the Jackrabbits to a co-regular season championship and No. 2 seed for the upcoming Summit League Championship this weekend.
In league play, Murkey's 22.1 points per game average led the league, while his 6.8 rebounds ranked fifth.
Recently, Murkey has taken his game to another level in preparation for the upcoming Summit League Championship in Sioux Falls, closing out the final five regular-season games with averages of 29.8 points, 8.0 rebounds on 51.0 percent shooting from the field. He has also shown soft touch from beyond the arc, knocking down 3s at a 57.7 percent (15-for-26) clip during the stretch run.
He helped Denver go 2-1 over its final three games to clinch the No. 8 seed in the Summit League Championship.
The Pioneers take on co-regular season champion North Dakota State on Saturday in the quarterfinals at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center at 5 pm MT. The game can be seen on MidcoSN and ESPN+.
