Ethan Walker becomes the 11th first round draft pick in program history

DENVER – University of Denver men's lacrosse attackman Ethan Walker (Peterborough, Ontario) was taken 10th overall by the Georgia Swarm in the 2020 National Lacrosse League Entry Draft on Thursday night.

Walker is the latest of 25 Pioneers to be drafted, including the 11th to fall off the board in the first round. Current associate head coach Matt Brown was the first, first-rounder in 2005 (fifth overall), followed by Geoff Snider in 2006 (fourth), Ilija Gajic (second), Cliff Smith (fourth) and Alex Gajic (fifth) in 2009, Mark Matthews in 2012 (first), Cam Flint in 2013 (fourth), Jeremy Noble in 2014 (second), Wesley Berg in 2015 (fourth) and Tyler Pace in 2017 (ninth).

In his previous three and a half seasons with the Pioneers, the three-time USILA All-America selection tallied 219 points on 142 goals and 77 assists. Walker is currently third in program history in points, 36 points behind former NLL First Round selection and 2015 NCAA Tournament Most Outstanding Player Wesley Berg. The Ontario native is also 46 goals behind Berg in career goals and five assists behind 2012 draft selection Alex Demopoulos for the career assists record.

In a pandemic shortened 2020 season, Walker had 15 goals and 10 assists in the Pioneers six games, including four goals and two assists in Denver's 14-11 win over Western Rival Notre Dame to end the campaign.
